Bridging Africa and its diaspora to catalyze a more sustainable and equitable world.

Our Impact

For over seven decades, AAI has bridged Africa and its diaspora to catalyze a more sustainable and equitable world. Taking a transcontinental, multifaceted approach, our programs span across four impact pillars: Liberatory Education, Community Building, Global Healing and Repair, and Economic Sovereignty.

Since our founding in 1953, over 23,000 Africans have received AAI scholarships and fellowships. Included in this community are H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa; H.E. Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire; H.E. Nangolo Mbumba, President of the Republic of Namibia; the late Dr. Wangari Maathai; Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, former United Nations Under-Secretary- General and Executive Director of UN Women; Strive Masiyiwa, Founder & Executive Chairman, Econet Wireless; and thousands more.

FEATURED ALUMNI INTERVIEW

Artist, Educator, AAI Lifetime Achievement Awardee, and AAI AFGRAD alumnus, Ablade Glover celebrated his 90th birthday this August with art exhibitions at the October Gallery in London and at his Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra, Ghana. As a part of our African Graduate Fellowship Program (AFGRAD), Prof. Glover earned a master's degree from Kent State University in 1972. His art captures the African continent in a way that resonates with so many the world over, and with his founding of the Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra, he provides an invaluable platform for so many African artists.
