Ghebre Mehreteab
Ghebre Selassie (Gabe) Mehreteab serves as a senior adviser to Africa America Institute. Over the last 14 years, Mr. Mehreteab has been instrumental in generating grants and from philanthropic sources and the public sector in support of several multifamily housing and commercial development in many cities.
Mr. Mehreteab served as Chief Executive Officer of The NHP Foundation (NHPF) until September 2009. In 1989, he co-founded NHPF and developed it into a leading national nonprofit owner of 12,000 housing multi-family housing for low- and moderate-income families in the United States. Previously, he served as a program officer at the Ford Foundation.
Mr. Mehreteab serves on the boards of the Lockhart Companies (USVI) and on the advisory board of Pembrooke Capital Management. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Cosmos Club and Epsilon Boule. He received BA and LLD (honorary) from Haverford College. He was born in Asmara, Eritrea.
