Building Bridges Together in the New Year

After a careful year of co-creating our new strategy with our community of alumni, advisers, board members, friends, partners and donors, all of us at AAI have bright horizons to look forward to in 2025.  We know where we are going, but most importantly we know who we are.

Below is a look ahead of the work that we will have the privilege of carrying out together next year, organized by our four impact pillars:

In Liberatory Education, we will continue to map out and document our extensive archives, which not only boast key moments from Civil Rights history, but also our institutional conscience and compass. We will continue to spark the creative imaginations of the students, parents, principles and community members that we serve in Southeast Michigan through our School Services Program. Inspired by the spirit of our founders, we will explore pilots that would allow us to bring this program to schools on the continent.

For Community Building, we have the challenging task of planning an even more beautiful and financially successful Awards Gala and Diplomatic Program for 2025.  In each of these endeavors, we will continue to explore new ways to deepen our engagement with our community.  Our alumni continue to be our greatest treasure and the work to gather their stories, map out their impact and to celebrate our successes will continue.

Our Economic Sovereignty work continues to meet the moment, particularly in an era of dramatic political shifts across the continent.  We will continue to identify pathways that will allow AAI to support the deepening of economic sovereignty in strategic African countries.  Driven by the urgency of the climate crisis, we will continue to grow our emerging body of Climate work which is designed to learn from and catalyze Black indigenous wisdom across Global Africa.

In Healing and Repair, we look forward to participating in the first summit focused on Healing organized by the Global Circle for Healing & Reparations in Ghana.  We will also identify leading practitioners who are exploring creative approaches to Healing & Repair that will allow us to deepen our relationship with our community around the world.

Thank you for continued support into the new year!
