Ablade Glover receiving AAI’s 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award

Professor Ablade Glover will be celebrating his 90th birthday this August. To commemorate the occasion, Prof. Glover will have art exhibitions at the October Gallery in London and at his Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra, Ghana.

On the 3rd of July, 2024, the October Gallery in London held a private event to celebrate the opening of a special exhibition at the gallery for the 90th birthday of one of our most distinguished alums, Prof. Ablade Glover. The exhibition of Prof. Glover's work opened to the Public on July 4th and will run until August 3rd. The exhibition, "Ablade Glover: Inner Worlds, Outer Journeys," is a celebration of the journey he has undertaken with his life's work.

Whilst in conversation with an AAI representative at the event, Prof. Glover said that "AAI helped make all of this possible." As a part of our African Graduate Fellowship Program (AFGRAD), Prof. Glover was given the opportunity to earn a master's degree from Kent State University in 1972. He has gone on to do so much for Africa, both with his incredible art that captures the continent in a way that resonates with so many the world over, and with his founding of the Artists Alliance Gallery in Accra that continues provide a platform for so many African artists.

AAI’s Kwesi Amoak recently interviewed Ablade Glover on this momentous occasion. We previously interviewed Prof. Glover for our Alumni Outreach Initiative, which you can view here.

Congratulations from all of us at the Africa-America Institute!
